Accident Investigation (E-Learning)

While many accidents seem to happen for obvious reasons, there may be things that contribute to an accident which are not always apparent. This online course covers the essentials of accident investigation.

This course is for any worker, supervisor or manager who may be called upon to investigate a worksite accident or incident, either alone or as part of an investigation team. This course will cover cause of the accident or incident, safety during the investigation, gathering evidence, recording the scene, photographing evidence, interviewing techniques, preparing reports with effective recommendations and case studies. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion and understanding.

Aerial Work Platform Awareness

This course introduces students to requirements under the Alberta legislation and CSA Standards for the inspection and operation of AWP’s. We review responsibilities of all parties, hazard assessment requirements, pre use inspection, stability factors and fall protection as it applies to Aerial Work Platforms.

Back Injury Prevention (E-Learning)

Preventing Back Injury Online Course Overview

Lifting is a common task in many workplaces. In the beginning, lifting may not hurt much. Pain often grows gradually. Once the pain is severe enough many people end up seeing a doctor. Once a back is injured, it is easy to re-injure it. By lifting the same way every day, workers can form good habits and avoid back injuries.

This online Preventing Back Injury course explains how the back works and what can be done to prevent back injuries. After completing this course, an understanding should be gained of how the back works, the most common types of back injuries, the risk factors that increase your chances of sustaining a back injury, the common causes of back injuries, the best ways to prevent a back injury, and the steps that should be taken if a back injury occurs.

Cargo Securement(E-Learning)
(approximately 4 hours)

This course is for drivers of commercial vehicles registered for more than 4,500 kg or designed for carrying 11 or more persons, including the driver. This course consists of 13 modules and follows the National Safety Code 10 Standard. The first 2 modules deal with the science and physics of the standard. The remaining 11 modules cover logs, dressed lumber, metal coils, paper rolls, concrete pipe crosswise, intermodal container, automobiles, light trucks, vans and heavy vehicles, equipment and machinery, flattened or crushed vehicles and roll-on / roll-off containers, hooklift vehicles and large boulders. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion and understanding.

Confined Space Level I – Entry
(approximately 4 hours)

This course is for anyone required to work in or around confined spaces. This course covers regulations, legislation relating to confined spaces, hazard assessment, supplied air and self-contained breathing apparatus and there will be practice using breathing apparatus. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate which is valid for 3 years.

Confined Space Level I & II

Learn about the requirements in a rescue plan and how to draft a rescue plan. Review of rescue catagories and how to perform a basic rescue.

Must be physically capable to perform the rescue scenario for Level II

Confined Space Level II – Rescue
(approximately 4 hours)

You must have a valid confined space level I certificate to complete this course. This course is for workers, supervisors and safety personnel who work in or around confined spaces or anyone who might be called upon to rescue a person from a confined space. This course covers information on safe rescues from confined spaces. A hands-on simulated rescue which includes wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus will be performed by all students as part of this course. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate which is valid for 3 years.

Enform Certified Detection and Control of Flammable Substances
( approximately 8 hours)

This course is for any person who is required to perform atmospheric testing and work in potentially flammable atmospheres. Gain an understanding on how to safely monitor, assess hazards and control flammable substances through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on practice. Topics covered; principles of flammable substances, care and preparation of combustible gas monitors, sampling strategies and control methods. Upon successful completion of the prescribed practical skills and the written examination, you will receive a Certificate of Completion that is valid for three years.

OSSA Certified Fall Protection
(approximately 8 hours)

This course was developed by the Fall Protection Group, is recognized by the Alberta Construction Safety Association and is certified by the Oil Sands Safety Association. It is for workers who are required to work at various heights and supervisors who oversee at height work. Students will spend time utilizing fall protection equipment in simulated work environments and applicable legislation will be discussed. The course covers assessing hazards, fall arrest systems, types of body harnesses, lanyards, energy absorbers, and inspection of fall protection equipment. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate which is valid for 3 years.

Fire Extinguisher Training
(approximately 4 hours)

This course is for everyone; the use of a fire extinguisher is practical for use in the home and at work. This course is designed for persons who may be required to use a 20lb or 30lb stored pressure or cartridge operated extinguisher to respond to a small fire. Participants will learn the theory of fire, the various types, classifications of fires, proper use and handling of hand held fire extinguishers and monthly inspection procedures. Each student will discharge a fire extinguisher in a live fire situation. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion and understanding.

First Aid – Standard
(approximately 16 hours)

2 days (day 1 is Emergency First Aid)

This course will cover several topics, including preparing to respond, the medical system, body systems, emergency action principles, cardiovascular emergencies, secondary survey, spine injury, musculoskeletal injuries, soft tissue injuries, sudden medical conditions, poisons and healthy lifestyles. Upon completing this course, you will receive a Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate with Level C CPR, which is valid for 3 years.

First Aid – Child Care
(approximately 16 hours)

This course is for anyone who is responsible for children. This course covers childproofing the environment, how to prevent infections, airway and breathing emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, recognizing signs of illness, medical conditions, wounds and bleeding, injuries to bones and joints, burns and environmental emergencies, poisons and child abuse and child neglect. Upon completion, you will receive a Red Cross Standard Child Care First Aid Level B CPR certificate which is valid for 3 years.

First Aid – Emergency
(approximately 8 hours)

This course is for everyone. This course covers preparing to respond, the emergency medical system, body systems, emergency action principles, airway emergencies, breathing emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies and secondary survey. Upon completion, you will receive a Red Cross Emergency First Aid Level C CPR certificate which is valid for 3 years.

First Aid – Standard Recertification
(approximately 8 hours)

This course is for students with a valid standard first aid certificate. This course covers the review of first aid and CPR skills as well as any updates and changes. Upon completion, you will receive a Red Cross Standard First Aid Level C CPR certificate which is valid for 3 years.

Flag Person Awareness Training
(approximately 4 hours)

This course is for anyone involved in operations where people are exposed to hazards created by vehicles and/or equipment. This course covers the responsibilities of a flag person, the protection of co-workers & the general public, communication skills, flag station and dealing with emergency vehicles. Safety precautions must be in place for the protection of those who come into contact with the construction zone. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion and understanding.

Forklift Basics
(approximately 4 hours)

Do you use forklifts or lift trucks in your workplace? If so you are required by OH&S to be trained in the inspection, limitations and safe operation of the equipment you are operating. In the classroom component we learn about the different classes of forklifts, stability factors and safe operation practices as required by Legislation and CSA Standards and participate in a hands on practical exercise.

Ground Disturbance Level II
(approximately 8 hours)

This course is for any worker that is supervising a ground disturbance, independently performing a ground disturbance or issuing and receiving ground disturbance permits. This course ensures that personnel are familiar with and fully understand all the regulations and variances involved when a ground disturbance takes place. Participants will learn how to do back-fill inspection, as well as how to use permits and conduct pre-job meetings. Emergency response plans and what to do in case an underground facility is contacted are also covered. Upon completion, you will receive a Global Ground Disturbance certificate which is valid for 3 years.

H2S Alive
(approximately 8 hours)

This course is for workers in the petroleum industry who could be exposed to hydrogen sulphide (H2S). This course covers the physical properties and health hazards of H2S, how to protect oneself and basic rescue techniques. Each student is required to operate a self-contained breathing apparatus, a detector tube device and participate in rescue lift and drag exercises. Upon completion, you will receive an Enform H2S certificate which is valid for 3 years.

Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety Legislation
(approximately 2 hours)

This course is for any owner, supervisor or worker involved in the oilfield, farming and ranching or retail, and who is interested in learning more about Alberta OH&S. The topics covered are the components of the OH&S Manual, the responsibilities and obligations of employers, workers, and prime contractors, and administrative penalties. This is a great introductory course to give participants a basic understanding of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.

Skid Steer Operators Training
(approximately 4 hours)

New and experienced operators will be trained in the safe and efficient operation of a skid steer loader. Review the step-by-step basics of skid steer loaders, includes classroom and practical learning. This course covers design concepts, safety features, planning ahead, safe traveling, working safely, operating controls, basic operations, attachments and working efficiently. Upon completion, you will receive a certification of completion and understanding.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (E-Learning)
(approximately 4 hours)

This course is for any worker responsible for transporting any kind of dangerous goods. This course covers the basic information required to comply with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and regulations, as well as classification of dangerous goods, safety placards and labels, documentation, training and certification and reporting of leaks, spills and accidents. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion and understanding.

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System(E-Learning)
(approximately 4 hours)

This course is for any worker who comes in contact with any kind of hazardous materials. This course covers the requirements for generic WHMIS training, as well as WHMIS legislation and regulations, worker responsibilities and rights, labels, material safety data sheets (MSDS), worker education program requirements and safe storage and handling of hazardous materials in the workplace. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion and understanding.
